G and I traveled from our current site in Alabama to Beech Mountain in NC. Our goal…The Land of Oz. This ‘abandoned’ theme park showed up in an article of abandoned theme parks on Facebook. I saw the theme and knew I had to go. However, I found out quickly that the park was not abandoned at all. It is privately owned and opens on the four Fridays in June and in one weekend in September. I researched a lot about whether or not it was a better choice to go in June or September, but I found that all of the characters were available on the later dates, so we chose ‘Autumn in Oz.’ What we paid for was well worth it!
We arrived by bus since the ski lift was down for maintenance. There was a beautiful view … This was G’s panoramic.
This was my version:
This is one of the best theme park experiences we have ever had. From start to end it was a wonderful day.
It started at the farm…we weren’t sure what to expect at first. We met a few characters that we weren’t quite sure if they were performers or visitors. A few signed G’s shirt.
Then we headed into the Gale Farmhouse, where we met Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. Em was a good hugger. And then came the TWISTER!
After the tornado, we landed with a thud 😉 We walked out into another world!
We followed the Yellow Brick Road through Oz and met many wonderful characters along the way!
The mix of new and old aspects of the park and the determination of the actors to make our visit one of a kind was really what put the park over the top. Everyone was so enthusiastic.
We were off to visit Emerald City!
Our trip was coming to an end…but it was a trip well spent!
Our last stop was to the Oz Museum
